Our expatriate specialist Dr Hisham had initiated a arabian night for all the eye clinic staffs to celebrate the new year of 2010. All the roasted mutton, onion soup, rice, special dish of eggplant were all cooked by himself and is very special and delicious. Staffs were also entertained by Dr Hisham with his arabian organ music. These are among the dishes served during that day and all had a very "good filling" night (10th Jan 2010)

Out of the 271 screened in Kampong Puyot longhouse back in November 2009, 13 required surgery, 3 patients had been treated in Miri GH but 9 was unable to make it to Miri Hospital.
Following this, Lions club miri host had agreed to go even further for these folks and they actually agreed to sponsor the 9 patients' transport fare and even daily allowance for the spending for them to come for treatment in Miri Hospital. Eye department had thus organized a mini cataract camp to help those patients.
However, only 4 patients agreed to come for the treatment. The patients arrived in Miri GH eye department on the 7th of January about 12pm in the afternoon. Biometry and assessment was done on the same day and Intraocular lens was order (sponsored by the Sarawak society for the blind) using sensar foldable intraocular lens. Surgery was performed on the 9th of January 2010.
The surgery was performed by Dr Sim Pek Eng (volunteer from Sabah Medical center and Dr Chieng Lee Ling, assisted by a very supportive and dedicated staffs of Miri eye clinic ie:
1. Haji Musa Zaini
2. SN Lai Oi Khuan
3. JM Khalidah Subeli
4. JM Khatijah
5. Optometrist Nur Hafizah
6. Optometrist Noor Aida
7. Dr Adeline Kueh Mei Ling
Apart from the 4 patients, another 8 patients from local who required urgent treatment were also added to the list. Thus 12 cataract surgeries was completed from 1.30am till 11.30pm, and most of the cases were hard rock cataracts with very poor vision.
